Curators & artists — can you share your experience?

I’m looking to connect with curators, artists, and cultural practitioners who have worked or are experimenting with bringing art beyond traditional institutions into public space and everyday environments.

Especially interested in those who:
– engage audiences who don’t usually visit museums or galleries
– work with participatory or city-based formats
– design projects with a clear message or call to action

I’d love to hear what you’ve tried, what worked (or didn’t).

I’m currently thinking in the context of Helsinki, where a growing number of residents live "between languages" . Many work in English, while much of everyday life still requires Finnish, making integration slow and often one-sided. At the same time, Finnish speakers are also adapting to more English-speaking environments.

I’m interested in reframing this as a two-way onboarding: not "someone needs to learn the language" but “we learn how to interact with each other".

The idea is to use artistic, participatory formats in urban space to make mutual support visible, normalize imperfect language use, and show multilingualism as a resource.

Graduate Open Call

We are launching this initiative with two open calls — one for fine arts students and one for BA or MA curatorial students who are graduating this year. The program is designed to support emerging artists and curators as they take their first professional steps in the art world.

Selected participants will receive a range of exciting opportunities and prizes, developed together with our collaborators, including professional development resources, industry insights, and unique experiences within the contemporary art ecosystem.

Through collaborations and initiatives like this, we aim to provide emerging professionals with valuable insights to help them build dynamic and sustainable careers in the art world.

Exhibition Feature - "We Have The Cure"

Hey all! It’s wonderful to be part of a platform where artists, curators, and arts workers can be connected across the world 🌎  

I’m Samantha, a Canadian curator and writer 🇨🇦 I’m also the Curator at the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington, a non-profit public gallery and education centre based in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.

I’m excited to share with you our current exhibition, “We Have The Cure” featuring Kosisochukwu Nnebe, a neurodivergent Nigerian-Canadian artist and researcher.

For generations, cassava has been pulled from the earth by women who understood its dual nature—food and poison, sustenance and sabotage. Records tell us that some enslaved Black women hid traces of the root beneath their fingernails, carrying a quiet insurgency in the smallest crease of the body. Their hands became thresholds between survival and refusal, protection and empowerment.

In “We Have The Cure”, Nnebe extends this lineage of Black feminist innovation into the present. Working across textiles, video, and installation, she brings together storytelling, historical reflection, and political activism. Her materials—cassava, indigo, fabric—evoke interconnected histories of resistance, healing, and survival. “We Have The Cure” honours these histories and asks what remains at our fingertips today: how women continue to make, resist, and reimagine in a world structured against their flourishing.

Nature pedagogy workshop with Joël Equagoo: „From the nature to the source of the identity !" Inspirations and experiences in and with nature are the result.

"At the beginning he was really uptight and totally unrelaxed. He was trapped in his role of being an adult and entrepreneur. He had a hard time to relax and forget his role as a business person .

Through our authenticity, natural authority and kindness, and love for nature, we were able to help him open up to the present moment in nature, to relax, to allow time to stand still, free of competition, and to indulge in the beauty of the tasks of the workshop, which helped him to let go of stress, and to fully embrace and enjoy the moment of creativity in nature.

During the workshop and while working on his own piece of art with natural materials, he looked around, searched along the river and then went into the wood, and shortly after came out with a huge piece of drift wood, which he then proceeded to balance on top of his balanced stones in nature.

He was very proud with the result of his completed workshop task, and really satisfied with the outcome and with his achievement. He was very happy and proud that other workshop participants were taking pictures of his work. The beautiful mixture of taking time, having patience, relaxing and having no competition, allowed him to dive into the moment and come up with a satisfying and renewing experience in nature.

It was beautiful and rewarding to see this man, the way he was when he first came to the workshop, and how only 3 hours later spent in nature with a loving guidance he was smiling and...

So I have started working on re-doing this piece. I've tightened the composition and chosen some different hues. I think it's important to check your skill development from time to time and this is a good way to do it. This piece is my husbands favorite, so he's excited to see it becoming a new painting. A very wonderful photographer in Melbourne FL took this photo. His name is Kenneth Castro

墨韵金符：穿越时空的艺术革命

在夜幕低垂的展览厅内，牛慧明的《道通天地宁静致远》以一种不可名状的力量，悄然侵入观者的心灵领地。这幅作品，如同穿越时空的外来物种，在传统水墨的领域里，既破坏着既定的秩序，又以独有的魅力重构着新的美学图景。

画面上，夜幕下的天地宛如混沌初开，主峰巍然屹立于苍茫大地，废墟之下却透出诗意的宁静，万物暗藏绿意，生机勃勃。三座大山，或耸立，或俯卧，其中贴有的金符，犹如镇妖降魔的符咒，不仅承载着画家对世间万物的关怀与祈愿，更体现了其救世济民的侠客精神。这金符，是画家对道通天地领悟的外化，也是其艺术追求的象征。

牛慧明以加厚熟宣、墨、金粉、朱砂、石陨石、动物胶等材料，经过三十多道工序，反复揣摩水墨抽象语言，将传统与现代、东方与西方巧妙融合。他的绘画，透过水墨通往宇宙，乘着诗意仙游洪荒道场，每一笔，每一划，都仿佛是大自然最本真的呼吸与律动。

这幅作品，让人不禁联想到被开发枯竭的地球终会迎来不可逆转的生命轮回。在这玄化鸿蒙的宇宙中，牛慧明构建了自己的水墨秘境，以抽象的表达方式，诉说着对生命、对自然、对宇宙的深刻思考。他的作品，不仅是艺术的展现，更是文化的传承与创新，是艺术家社会责任感与学术使命感的体现。

水墨艺术的现代变革，不仅是艺术形态学意义上的变化，更是现代文化精神的全面革新。这种革新，依赖艺术家的当代意识觉醒，语言学的转向是绘画语言的重要里程。牛慧明正是这样一位觉醒者、革命者，他致力于做艺术形态现代变革的先锋，以自己的方式，诠释着水墨艺术的无限可能。

站在这样的艺术作品前，我们仿佛能听见历史的回声，感受到宇宙的脉动。牛慧明的《道通天地宁静致远》，不仅是一幅画，更是一首诗，一曲歌，一段关于生命、关于自然、关于宇宙的深刻哲思。
